Songbird Farm is seeking 2018 Summer Farm Crew Members!
General Description:
Songbird Farm is a young, small scale, diversified vegetable farm in Washtenaw County, MI.
The farm is in it’s third season at Tilian Farm Development Center, Ann Arbor Township, MI. Tilian Farm Development Center is an incubator program/property which helps facilitate access to land and infrastructure for beginning farmers. It is run by Michigan Food and Farming Systems (MIFFS) and the property is owned by Ann Arbor Township.
We practice Organic growing methods, 90% of what we farm is done using hand tools. We currently have approximately ¼ acre in production, but are expanding this year to ¾ acres. We grow intensive successions of crops and produce thousands of pounds of food each year.

Number of crew members: 1-2 (depending on experience)

Meals: You are required to provide your own meals although we will have shared farm salads occasionally.
Skills Desired: The right candidate will be responsible, on time, fast to learn, fast to work, be able to take constructive criticism, and follow directions. Everything is done on a farm for a reason. You must be able to lift 50# and have some physical labor experience. This is a very physical job; you will be bending, squatting, lifting, standing in all weather conditions- taking care of your body is a must. The right person will be able to work independently and with supervision, have a positive attitude, be patient, fastidious, thoughtful and have a good sense of urgency of the tasks at hand. Farm experience and interest in farming as a career is a plus.
Pay: $11/hr with opportunities for increased wages based on performance and review.
Housing: We do not offer housing.

Job Details: This is a position for a part- time paid crew member. The work will include all aspects of the farm; from planting to seeding, cultivating, hand weeding, washing, prepping both vegetables and flowers for all markets and sales outlets. There will be a high focus on harvesting with additional skills learned as the season progresses.
Weekly Schedule: (Summer)
20-30 hrs/ wk
Mon, Wed, Fri 7-1pm
Sat 9-1 pm
There is a potential to work additional hours in the summer during peak harvest season.
The work week will be every other day with a partial day on Saturday. Each day will start at 7am promptly. We will always make time for a lunch break of at least 30 minutes.
You must be able to come to the farm for an interview.
Housing is not provided, if you are moving to the area, please do your research and have solid housing accommodation options prior to applying.
